Carpinteria, California — Oct. 22, 2008 – NuSil Technology (www.nusil.com), a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials, and Ciba, a worldwide provider of turnkey antimicrobial solutions to the medical device industry, announce their agreement to jointly provide antimicrobial solutions for use in medical device and healthcare-related silicone products.

It is believed there is an increased risk of infections when microorganisms bind and multiply on the surface of medical devices that are in contact with or inserted into the body. The goal of the collaboration between NuSil and Ciba is to develop customized medical silicone materials incorporated with an innovative microbial defense system that offers built-in broad range spectrum protection against growth of microorganisms — specific to any device application needs.
